I'm counting the days until I can go back to work for them:
AVATAR COMING TO DISNEY'S ANIMAL KINGDOM.
Yes, you've heard right. Click that link, and it will bring you to the official announcement from Walt Disney Imagineering. An entire land in Animal Kingdom themed towards Avatar. Construction is expected to commence in 2013, with a projected completion date not yet announced. The article also announces that two more Avatar sequels are in the works, with new, enchanting stories to be discovered.
Disney Parks Blog has updated since yesterday with answers to some popular questions, you can view that here.
My opinion? It was going to be hard for WDW to compete with the sheer chaos of the fame of Harry Potter for years to come. The Harry Potter brand is just so incredibly interesting to so many millions of people worldwide, and it has since been a huge boost for the Universal Studios theme park brand. If Disney was going to compete with its largest external factor - I cannot believe I am about to say this - it had to come up with something better than New Fantasyland. Don't get me wrong, New Fantasyland is completely necessary and certainly worth updating and "plus-ing", but Harry Potter is more male-geared, and young and teenage boys are a market that Disney has been trying hard to fill. New Fantasyland is "girly", and they have been having problems since day one trying to find a way to make it more "boy friendly." The Avatar brand is massive. It can appeal to everyone in any age or gender group, and has the "Disney value" of family right at its core. The potential to turn this land into something completely innovative in the attractions sense is endless. I know people will have their opinions that WDI (Walt Disney Imagineering) should have created their own idea instead of acquiring the Avatar brand, but I think this was a stellar move. Why create the fan base when there are already millions of fans worldwide? I say good on Imagineering and I cannot wait to see this all come together! So excited! I'll keep my blog updated with any new information that is released!

If you're in the Orlando or San Fran area : heads up! Both Legoland parks are offering free admission for the week of October 24-30! The Orlando park is just opening and it should be interesting to see what attractions will be open this first week and if all areas will be available for guests. Plus, it's FREE. Hard to pass up on free, friends. Click me and I'll bring you to the website. Click the Facebook "like" button and you'll get a free admission pass. Legoland has confirmed this deal, so it's certainly not some kind of scam. It's good to note, however, that you must be a Lego VIP member, which you can obtain for free by filling out an application at any Lego store (those of you in Orlando...the Downtown Disney store is probably your best option!)
I'll be so jealous of anyone who goes! Have a great time for me!

The name's Emily Catherine, and this is my road to Rosen.
Rosen College of Hospitality Management, that is.
Sometimes when your life is rapidly approaching twenty-one, you find yourself with decisions to be made. I'm a senior now. Where do I go from here? While Graduation and the month of May seem to be a long time from the September I find myself in, something tells me it's time to think a little differently. I remember when 2012 seemed miles and millenniums away three (and change) years ago when I started as a freshman at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. In 2008, I couldn't even dream of graduation and "the real world" everyone seemed so keen on warning me of. However, since then it's been a busy three years - an internship with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, moving to Greece to finish college with the University of Maryland - University College, and getting engaged - and I think I'm ready for this next chapter.
Grad School.
The two most terrifying words for any college senior. Admissions all over again. Standardized testing all over again. Do I have to be a freshman again too? I'm staring at a blank word document, trying to fill a page with the highlights of my life. What are the highlights of my life? What can I bring to the table that is fresh, innovative, and creative? At least I know I can do it all with a smile - now I just have to figure out how to get there.
Ladies and gentleman, we are going on a journey. A journey through Grad School admissions. A road to Rosen. The Hospitality and Tourism industry is my life, and I plan on using this blog to not only document the admissions process, but to really give you the essence of what it is to study your vacation. I'll give you tips and tricks that I've learned along the way, and keep you up to date with all the happenings in the industry. The only way to get in is to pour my heart and soul into doing what makes me happy - which just so happens to be making "you" happy - and to show them that I've got what it takes.
Let's go.
